Do You Know Anything About THis Amp?

I had the 100 watter, my first amp. Couldn't keep up with a Marshall, farted out pretty quick for me, my trick was to put it backwards in a corner to try and emphasize the low end.
I ended up with a mongrel rig for a while of the head from the Yamaha powering an Acoustic 361 cab (18"), it actually didn't sound that bad, but looked like complete amateur hour, the head all sitting sideways with cords hanging out of it. Put the head back in the cab and sold all my junk for a decent rig in the mid 80's.

Looks a lot like the one I had when I was a kid...I think mine was bigger though. I swear it stood about 4 feet tall and had wheels. It was absurdly heavy and the speaker was torn by someone ripping up the distortion knob I expect. I was looking for a pic, but I cannot find it so I cannot confirm what I had...I thought it was 400W, but I didnt know anything at the time. LOL

Yep, the 50 watt 115 version from the same era was my 2nd bass amp in the late 70's/early 80's. When I needed more power I upgraded to the B100 head and matching 2x15 cab (remember when hauling bigger, heavier gear around was fun!?!) :confused:

The Yamaha amps worked great for me at the time, but after that everything went off the rails (rack mounted Yamaha bi-amped system with Gauss cabs, etc.) My back hurts just thinking about it.;)

I used this amp for gigging in bars in the 90s and early 2000s. In bars that didn't have a PA, it was JUST loud enough.

Personally, I loved the sound - very warm and full. But it was stupid heavy - 64 lbs!

Anyway, wanted to clear up a (reasonable) misconception. The word "thirty" in the amp name does not refer to the wattage. The actual wattage is 120 (unless I'm reading the fine print incorrectly in the back of the amp).

FYI, 120W is how much power it draws from the wall.

Just looking at this to see if there was some info on my old "THIRTY". I have had it since 1989. Unless one is playing at ear bleeding volumes, this amp is plenty loud enough still. It remains as one of my oldest pieces of bass gear. Played it at rehearsal last night. It's been there for about 6 years. I don't like moving it. But, that old dog still gets the job done, and honestly I still dig the tone of it. 30w on this is VERY conservative. It's more like 100w. I ran it last night on 3. Granted we were not playing loudly at all, but it's plenty for practice. If has wheels, but it's too impractical to gig with, although I have no qualms at all about using it for one if I had to. What I think is funny about this amp is that it will continue to play for about 10 seconds after it is turned off. HUGE transformer in it which explains the weight.

Likewise, I have a 100w B100 head. That's more like 300w. It's big, it's heavy, and it's HUGE. One center mounted handle, but it should have been mounted to one side because it is definitely heavier on the transformer side!
