Do you own Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A?

Another installment of "Do you own [INSERT ALBUM]".

Released in 1984 in the midst of the Cold War, Springsteen's seventh studio album is generally accepted as the 18th best selling album of all time. The patriots and politicos instantly latched onto the album's title track...apparently, the irony was lost on them.

I've never owned it. I like some of Bruce's work but aside from Glory Days, I could pass on most of the tracks on Born in the U.S.A. I heard the title track enough times in the 80s to last a lifetime.

I was in college at the time, and playing covers in bands - probably did about half the tunes on the album. Just like Huey Lewis' Sports, if you were playing, you had to know these tunes.

I'm not a Springsteen fan but I have this album anyway, the only one of his I ever bought. I was 14 at the time, hormones raging, the songs spoke to me then and I still like them now.

I never liked that era of Bruce. I have grown to appreciate him, but at the time I was still buying albums, I wouldn't have bought any Bruce. I currently don't have any, either. If I was going to buy some of his stuff, "Born in the U.S.A" wouldn't be where I would start.

I've never owned it. I like some of Bruce's work but aside from Glory Days, I could pass on most of the tracks on Born in the U.S.A. I heard the title track enough times in the 80s to last a lifetime.

I used to own it on vinyl - no mas. Not worth getting on CD for my tastes. I have a ton of Bruce, by the way - just not this or his next few albums. His music got wonky to me until he got back on course.

Every time I go to a sporting event and they play "Born in the USA" I shake my head. Don't these folks hear what he's SAYING?

I don't think anyone would contend it's his best work - not by a long-shot.

I bought one on vinyl in 1985. All five minutes or so of the song "Born in the U.S.A." still gives me goosebumps. Bruce is another one of the few artists that make you visualize the song.

Bruce has long been one of my favorite song writers, not my favorite album of his, but I have it.

Springsteen more than used-up his lifetime tape allotment on Born to Run.




He sings like a wounded Moose too.

I consider myself a fairly big Springsteen fan, most especially for his live shows.
I have all the official albums, and a few others besides.
Born in The USA is way down on my list of his work.
I think it's mainly the poppy over-produced nature of it.
The songs are good, and some of them when heard live really shine.
The title track especially, in it's acoustic slower form, really shows what he was about at the time...I never understood why he released the 'pop' version...well, apart from the millions it made him !

I was a big fan... Until I bought this album. I listened to it one time and never again. Very popular but not in a league with Born to Run, Darkness or The River IMO.
Incredible performer. Incredible show.

Ugh, God no. Tone deaf and grating at every turn. My musical tastes have been all over the place since this album came out, but I've always hated it. My dad bought it on cassette when it was released, and with heavy rotation back in the day on MTV it always turned my stomach.
