I study slapping every now and then because it tends to break me out of ruts and open up new rhythmic ideas. I'll also whip it out occasionally if I'm playing pop, because audiences just love a bit of slap, even if you're not Marcus Miller.

bingoI never slap - sure I've tried to dabble in it but playing classic rock and country on stage I never have much call for it. Slap is something to learn , another technique to use but not being able apply it in a "real life" situation makes it less interesting imo. I'd rather focus my energies on techniques that I can use and apply in my current bands. - my two cents
