Do you Slap? if show how much?

I study slapping every now and then because it tends to break me out of ruts and open up new rhythmic ideas. I'll also whip it out occasionally if I'm playing pop, because audiences just love a bit of slap, even if you're not Marcus Miller.

I dabble but dont focus on it because I dont see the point yet. I dont have a chance to use it live so its not really using my practice time effectively.

I never slap - sure I've tried to dabble in it but playing classic rock and country on stage I never have much call for it. Slap is something to learn , another technique to use but not being able apply it in a "real life" situation makes it less interesting imo. I'd rather focus my energies on techniques that I can use and apply in my current bands. - my two cents

I slap often in my bass one but always according to the tune mood and arrangement!

I slap quite often. Always have and probably always will.

When I am on a funk/fusion gig probably 80-90% slap, rock gig 10% slap, country....0% chance of slap, and in the bedroom 100% chance of slap.... So, I use slap a lot. I never knock a good thumper or a pick player. Everyone has their style and genre and that's the reason musicians are freakin awesome!!! There is a time and place for everything.

Yes, I'm old-fashioned musician and really like slap.
In Dance Music, I used to play a lot of Double Thumb Slapping in the 80's as
A.) my alternative to the "computerized" Synth Bass 16th's notes,
B.) based on Bernard Edwards' huge influence.

I dabble but am proficient. In college played a lot more slap, but after that wasn't in too many funk bands. In Top 40 80s cover bands would have a few tunes to play.
Used slap lines in some fusion bands, but mostly played hard rock and power pop, so finger style and pick was the usual MO.
Love the style! Play it a lot in the shed. FUN!!
