i've always felt that bisexuality is difficult to understand as a sexuality in and of itself, rather than a choice between sexual orientations. it just further complicates something we wish would be much more simple than it is.

Thats just the thing, to me (a bisexual dude) it isnt a choice. Id say most straight people dont choose to be attracted to the opposite sex, nor do gay people choose to be attracted to the same sex. Just the same, I didnt choose to be attracted to both. Some people are just wired that way.

Dude I am totally there with you on that point. One of the things that really pushes my buttons especially from those closest to me is when they conceptualize orientation as a choice only if it is outside the predominate hetro form.

Right. I always laugh when I hear someone say "its just a phase". Granted, for some I guess it could be, as if they were curious and experimenting and ended up discovering it wasnt for them. But, the notion that a person chooses to be gay, to me, is kind of silly. So would that mean that the entire straight population just chooses to be straight? And why, when being gay is so much more fabulous?

Seems you're misinformed. I've known myself to be biseuxal since I was 12 and in no way am I 'experimenting'. I just see gender as being no barrier as to who I choose to love.

exactly. i've always been interested in the perceived difference between hetero-/homo- and bisexuality. the confusion, i think, arises when the idea is applied only to manifest physical relationships between two people. as if bisexuality only concerns potential relations, when the physical relation will be EITHER hetero- or homosexual. then, of course, it's possible that the idea of bisexuality would be associated with either polyamorous relationships or promiscuity. that's the best i could reason it out, at least. i guess that assumes that people have a reason to think the way they do, though.
