Does anyone else really DISLIKE talking music with people?

Being a huge Rush fan, I know what you mean...

Yeah, I feel really weird with my musical tastes, because I grew up in the late 90s and 00s, but the music I listened to was a 60s-70s oldies station, so all my musical tastes were shaped by what was popular 40-50 years ago. So I'm REALLY big into classic rock, and although there are other people who are too, it's definitely not the norm. I didn't grow up with my own generation's music, so I can't really hold a lot of conversations with people my age. We don't really know any of the same music.

On the plus side, popular music was way more dynamically and timbrally varied back then, so I have a very great musical palette. So that's nice. I'm hoping to start a rock band and start a musical revolution, a resurgence in the musical feelings and ideas of the 70s. But I'd be okay with just the Rock Band part. :D

And by that I mean do you dislike talking about bands and artists that you like with other people? I personally hate doing it because of how judgmental conversations can seem to turn if your tastes don't line up. Likewise, I just hate how ignorant people can be at times when it comes to music. I've gotten the, "You like that band?" before from a number people who have never even listened to that artist's material enough to make a decent judgment of it. Ah, it's just frustrating [/rant].

Good thing this doesn't happen here on TB. :hiding:

The only time I'll ever talk about music is on internet forums. In real life, its a non-topic. I know guys who all they talk about is their gear...like they have absolutely nothing going on in their lives apart from their music equipment. Fair enough, its your hobby and you're entitled to love it, but when every single word that comes out of your mouth has something to do with "bass" or "amp" or "cab" then it just becomes sad.

Kinda like people who all they talk about is their kids...same principle. I don't care.
