It is imported by the same company that brings in Johnson basses. In fact, look at the Johnson bass in this link (seperated at birth?) If the link doesn't work, search for Johnson six string bass on ebay.

The Johnson's have been discussed in the forum. While researching making an order of basses made overseas, I came across the AXL/Johnson distributor site (don't have the link.) How much are they asking locally? I think the Johnsons go for $269.00 on ebay.

My AXL 6 was in the music shop for £460, but a friend of mine is good friends with the axl rep. So i paid about £175 for it.
