Does anyone still make a 36.5" (winding length) flatwound E string?

Yeah a pic would help. Ideally you'll have 3-4 wraps with NO part of the outer winding touching the tuning peg.
I usually measure just past 4 finger's width (4") past the tuner (with the ball end in the anchor), then bend the string 90 degrees, and cut it 1/2" - 5'8" past the bend. The bend goes down the tuner hole, then wind it up. Should get 4 wraps or so on the post (winding downward, so the string comes off the post at the bottom). Then, I pull on the string a bit in the middle to set the wraps tightly, and tune to pitch. When all the wraps are side-by-side they don't have to settle more, and it stays in tune. That also gives you a good break angle over the nut. Besides, bending before cutting (as recommended by more that one string maker) keeps round-core and flat-wound strings from slipping on the core, and compromising their integrity.
