Bleach-----no thanks, but I did use JP4 to clean myself once-----never again.
1969--place called Phouc Vinh in III Corp, S. Vietnam. I'd choppered up to pick up a new guy for the unit. Had to spend the night. Probably 10PM. took a "shower" to cool off, had on a pair of flip-flops and a towel. After showering, trudging along the edge of the freshly re-surfaced tarmac/flight line towards the flight shack after the shower. Mortars started coming in all over the flight line--trying to score some hits on our choppers in the revetments. I instinctively hit the ground---or rather freshly tarred tarmac--totally jumped outta my flip-flops and towel (never recovered). After about 10 minutes of incoming it ended. I shakily peeled myself up, buck naked, totally covered with tar. Went to the flight shack, scared my buddy there. All we had available was JP4 (a grade of jet fuel that choppers use) and I had to use it to get all the tar off my body. Took about an hour and I still ended up looking like a piece of mahogany.. All night jazzholes were threatening me with their lighters, flicking then on and off, which, of course, infuriated me as I'd gone up like a roman candle.
So, using mouthwash as aftershave ain't so bad after I guess.
