Double Neck Bass...Why?

From NAMM Oddities, a stealthy(?), hollow-ish, double neck.
Took me a second to realize the fretless is attached, not behind the fretted.

Oops - was joking (hence smiley!).
Some Taurus pedals have always been on my "maybe next year" list... I've got some MIDI pedals and a Roland SH-32 which does the Tom Sawyer growl. (I've also got a couple of Rickys, but not a big nose.)

Never got the point. It's purely for show, IMO. When it came on screen in This Is Spinal Tap I quite literally burst out laughing because it was so ridiculous. I can't see why you'd switch between a 4 and a 5 in the same song, or the same song would require differently-tuned basses unless you genuinely are trying too hard.

The BC Rich in Spinal Tap was a 4 and an 8. Essentially the bass version of Jimmy Page's SG doubleneck 6/12.

I had a made in China Mike Rutherford copy for a couple of years (4 string / 12 string). Why? It made sense for a lot of songs that have a quiet intro, then blast away when the song gets going. A lot of tunes (think Wanted - Dead or Alive, by Bon Jovi) have an acoustic intro. I would do the acoustic intro on the 12 string neck, then switch to the bass neck when the song really kicks in. It worked pretty good. Too bad it didn't sound like a Rickenbacker, or I would have kept it. It's being played in a Genesis tribute band in Quebec. It was well made and surprisingly comfortable. Here's a shot of it;

Well, I think that Rush on Xanadu definitely did the doublenecks for show.

With Genesis, they were a little more integral.

Led Zep - I get the 12/6 thing in Stairway To Heaven. There are a couple of other Led Zep songs which need a 2nd guitar (The Rover and Ten Years Gone), so there could be an application there.

Yes - they did like to flit around between instruments, so why not?

Actually, overall, why not?
