Douglas Pisces Single Coil P-bass from Rondo -- first impression

Does the pickup route have enough space for a Strat single coil? If so, those who hate SC hum could place a 'Rails style Strat pickup in place of the stock one. DM makes the Cruiser which is supposed to be most SC-like. SD makes the Cool or Vintage rails (or a custom stacked SC P). For low cost, Kent Armstrong makes a Cool rails that's under $60 and the EMG Select single is $30. Later.

I always have heard the opposite is true, which is supposedly why Billy Sheehan would clamp his headstock with vice-grip plyers...adding mass to improve sustain. I never tried it, so IDK.
May be the pictures, but to me the angle on top of the headstock looks sharper than the fender(the side the tuners are on). Are they the same angle?
Eitherway, I'd have to try reshape it, or replace the whole neck.No way would I look at that Douglas headstock one second longer than necessary,as is.
If I really had to replace the neck, it's more money than it's worth IMO.
Looking at the amount of work(headstock, sheilding,miss aligned poles, and whatever else turns up)I'm gonna have to pass on this model. Too bad, I really like 50's style P's.

I went ahead and ordered another one, sending my first back for a refund. I think there's enough good here to have some fun with for $130.
Nordstrand makes a '51P straight single coil pickup that's split and doesn't hum. They also make a 5-string version that's being used in the bass mockup in my avatar that's currently being built by Rod at Regenerate Guitar Works.

I don't have it yet. The bass is currently being built. My avatar is a mockup of what the bass will look like when complete.
There are variations to the smaller Fender p-bass style headstock and I think they all look good so I'd say almost anything goes:

Once the top of the Douglas headstock is rounded, it will measure about 3/4" longer than what's showing in the photo. Although I love that vintage tele look, it could look too long and skinny if you try and replicate it exactly. Getting something close will be doable though.
In all honestly, I'm kind of getting used to it. I really like the way it sounds and plays. I'm more anxious to string it up with the tape wounds I ordered than performing surgery. I guess time will tell.

I know this is rough design, but I would leave a lot more wood beneath the tree string. Never a good idea to get too close to holes drilled in wood.
I guess I am one of the few, the proud, the aesthetically challenged. I'd rather have the new headstock over the Telecaster bass look. Never cared for it.
That's what I was wanting to see. I may have to get one of these as a platform for madness. Nordstrand Big Single on a 51P sounds mean!
Just found a murky pic of a frankenbass I slapped together... basically a j-bass with a peanut headstock.

If it were me I'd wait on shaving off the point until last. I think it may look good (and different) with the point somewhat intact.
That's not bad, Fajah. Take the saw to it and let's see how it looks. You can always cut more if needs be.

Looks good. I'd go for it.
Don't forget to round off the tip, taking that little edge off of it. The top edge of the recurve. You know what I mean?
