Down payments.

So here's my question as I've just recently took a partial down payment on an item I'm selling the classifieds.
Do any of you who sell in classifieds take down payments on items you're selling? I know a lot of factors go into making the decision, feedback, communication, etc. Me personally it was proposed and after a quick check saw no reason not to.
Again just a question and kinda looking to hear responses.

I took A $100 deposit once , the guy disappeared and I think I kept the $100, was awhile ago. Nowadays though i doubt I would do it, I’d be willing to post it on reverb so they could use affirm to finance it but deposit wise probably not unless it was local.

I’ve never taken a down payment or anything like that. Not because I chose not to, but because the buyer paid in full.

I probably wouldn’t be opposed to it, but I would make it clear that it’s a non-refundable deposit and the balance must be paid by x day, or it goes back on the market.
