To try and keep the gist as succinct as possible, I'm running out of patience trying to sell old gear. What I'm parting with for sure is a Sterling by Musicman Ray34 CA and my Avatar Neo 2x12. Rays just really aren't my cup of tea and the Avatar Neo 2x10 is PLENTY, should the need for a gig arise...so the 2x12 is not needed. Looking at getting a little combo as a trade-in at Guitar Center *shudders*.
I'm wanting a "Hey! Let's jam some [insert song here]!" with buddies at get-togethers amp. We're talking a small guitar combo and maybe a cajon or something I'm jamming with. Not loud enough to deafen the kids or make the spouses angry. It'll probably get more use in the bedroom or living room, so I'd like something with serviceable tone. Going for a nice, rubbery low-end (think 70s hifi lows and not 90s subwoofer lows) with malleable mid and treble range.
I already have some combos in mind, Ampeg Rocket Bass is the front runner, but wanted to get some opinions on the main difference with the 1x10 and 1x12 versions. The 1x12 version is said to have a custom Eminence speaker, while the 1x10 doesn't state that it's by Eminence (even in Ampeg's marketing materials). Anybody notice a substantial difference between the two? I like the demos I've heard, but they're typically the 1x12 being demo'd. The Effects Loop and Ultra Lo/Hi aren't a real big deal to me.
The others I'm looking at are the Peavey Max 1x10 or 1x12 and the Orange Crush Bass 50. I had the older Peavey MaxBass 1x10 and liked it, but it was pretty underpowered. Never owned a SS Orange amp, but the sound demos seemed pretty good. A lot of demo videos now are doing a mix of DI and room mic, kinda makes it hard to get a solid idea of the in-person tone. Yes, I could go try them out at GC, but none of these amps will drown out the idiot on the 100w tube stack wailing the intro from "Ain't Talkin 'bout Love" for 2 hours straight.
Thoughts on those? I'd like to keep the budget under $450 (assuming GC will give me about $300-350 for the trade-in), so I'd also be open to suggestions on things in that range. Not interested in Fender Rumble combos...owned them before, not my cup of tea. I would go for used, but I'm limited to what GC has on hand if I'm doing trade-in, otherwise I'd be scouring the classifieds on here.
