I was using a Pork Loin and was happy with it but, I'm happier with the Mesa Bottle Rocket that replaced it. Lot of good talk about the Darkglass B3K but, it's expensive.

Have you played around with just cranking the gain on the PF500? It seems that it has a sort of tube emulation built into that amp.
Why simulate? You could get an actual tube-based drive pedal.
It still won't sound like a tube amp.
More so than a solid state pedal emulating one.
Maybe. I have never heard a single tube preamp that sounded like a tube amp.
