Very satisfied Spotify premium user here. You can make playlists and they custom make a lot of daily and weekly ones for you. I've discovered a lot of great bands particularly on the Discover Weekly one.

I have an android with truly unlimited plan, but if I know I'll be driving somewhere where the phone reception is in and out, I'll download 10 albums in 10 minutes before I go!

Yes, NRBQ is one of the few bands pretty much unavailable on YouTube. I bought most of there stuff on iTunes, but after many years, i’ve come to detest Apple. It’s ironic to me to think of their 1984 Stupidbowl commercial that showed Microsoft as the evil tool of the overlords. Now Apple seems to be the unnecessarily expensive, restrictive evil empire.

So, let me see if I’m reading this correctly. Apparently you believe that it’s Apple that is keeping the NRBQ off iTunes and because of that they have become the “unnecessarily expensive, restrictive, evil empire”. Take a look at who else has elected not to license their music to Apple.

The wife and I just bought a new car after 15 years. No Cd player!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm an aging baby boomer and I got a ton of Cds and I can't even play them in the new ride. Cds are going the way of the dinosaur.

As far as I know, if you have a desktop and it has a Cd port, you can transfer your Cd music to flash drive (thumb drive) and plug that into your car's USB port. I've not done that yet but I've been told that is an option.

Yup....My new Toyota...I have to upload all my CDs to my old laptop..Load them onto a flash drive stick....plug that into my car USB and play my albums...but it is glitchy and slow to find the right album on the go...then it freezes for a while or keeps playing the same track...Grrrrr...I miss my CD player

Plus....my new laptop also does not have a CD burner...so I had to buy an external CD drive....Gonna post this in Get off my lawn GOF

How's the fidelity? My older beemer doesn't have an aux in or bluetooth.

Sounds great, you just have to find an unused FM radio channel-You can use Google to find the ones in your area.
I’ve noticed no great difference in sound quality when playing Spotify via the Bluetooth adapter, from the sound of the factory CD player, which has the 6 disc changer located in the trunk, which is a bit of an inconvenience.

No, no,no. It’s NRBQ that’s kept NRBQ off of YouTube. What I have against Apple is that I can no longer change the mp4s that I bought to mp3s and load them into a non Apple device. Granted in the old iTunes, that was a convoluted process, but it could be done. Had I bought all those songs @ Amazon, They would be mp3s and usable in any device.

I suppose I shouldn’t reserve my ire for Apple only. I’m really just old man mad at the world. When I bought a record eons ago, it was mine to do with as I pleased. Now I can’t really buy a song, just lease it subject to potentially changing restrictions. It’s a brave new world in recorded music, where apparent ease of use is tempered by a constant need to buy new technology to continue to use the stuff you bought years previously.

What I can hold against Apple. Is the price of their products. My iPhone 5 broke and a new Apple replacement would have been like $800. My Android phone was not cheap by my ancient way of thinking, but still half that price.

That's funny. Perhaps you might give this a try, to convert your mp4's to mp3's.

I could be wrong, but I thought songs bought on iTunes were “protected”. Encoded to prevent this sort of thing. The only way I knew how to do such a thing previously was to burn the tunes to a CD and then import them back into iTunes and save as mp3s. I don’t think that’s possible any longer.

Doesn’t really matter anymore. “Buying” songs is an archaic concept for the most part. If I have to buy a few NRBQ albums again that’s not a huge issue.

Youtube music streams music only, and uses far less data than youtube video. If you are listening, not watching, you don't need the video. I can't stream because of the crazy high data cost, and unlimited in Canada is too expensive. I use Spotify Premium and download playlists. I can listen until I'm bored, delete, and start a new one. Pretty cheap to download at home.

+1. I use Spotify, but I haven’t upgraded to Premium yet. I use it in my car and for learning songs. It’s similar to Pandora. Basically, you can search for and listen to songs, albums, and artists. You can make your own playlists, share them, and access others shared playlists. You can also listen to podcasts.

I’m gonna try YouTube music. They have a free one month trial to boot. They do offer music and videos. I suppose with any of these services, I could download the videos on WiFi and avoid the data charges. I just increased May data usage from 2 to 4 go too. That wasn’t terribly expensive.

I need to join the brave new world of audio. My cassette player is long gone, ditto the CD. You Tube has virtually all the music I want to listen to but has two drawbacks that i’m Aware of so far: can’t select the next song via the car’s controls and high data usage.

So many choices for streaming audio, what’s the bet deal for me? I’d like do be able to make my own collections of tunes and be able to select them via the car’s controls through Android car connect. Not a deal breaker if I can’t but it would be nice. Data usage might not be a big issue cause I could probably purchase unlimited data usage.

What’s the difference between YouTube and YouTube Music?

Is everything on you tube accessible on some other app, like Amazon prime?

I have a car stereo with a USB port, so anything old is easy to load. But for anything random or new, I pay for YT premium. Name a song. It has it. You can download th as t and podcasts at home and not use data on the road.

Plan ahead and save money. I personally endorse YT premium over spotify or pandora.

My new car has a CD player but I don't use it much. Instead, it's got slots for SD cards. I was able burn most of my iTunes library onto one. I usually keep the player on Random and it just plays and plays.

My 2014 Focus has a USB port and Aux- in jack with the stock radio. My earlier car now also has the same capability since I installed a new Alpine head unit for $120.

I rarely use a USB thumb drive because I prefer to just plug in a portable music player to the Aux-in jack.

I admit that it would be nice to be able to navigate with the screen on the car's radio rather than the tiny screen on the player but it isn't that big a deal because I usually play albums from start to finish.

I have loaded stuff on to a thumb drive and that’s great. However, I loaded most of my cds into iTunes as mp4s hence they’re unusable except in iTunes. Also, virtually all of my library is now available for free on YouTube and there’s stuff on YouTube that I couldn’t buy even if I wanted to. Maybe that stuff is on Google play too and maybe not.

I’ve got to see if connecting my phone via Bluetooth controls YouTube

You can export itunes as MP3's which will play from a thumb drive in your car:

I just put the songs on my phone & use that when I drive.
It hooks up to the car stereo

I use Spotify premium, you create as many song lists as you want and specific songs to each. You can skip songs with your car/stereo/phone control. I have the family plan because all the rest of my family also use it. $15 per month for 6 accounts.

As for the data usage. Spotify have an offline option so you can play your list without need of data or internet.

The free Spotify version is the same but with commercials and and limited number of skips.
