Drug usage among musicians

Pot makes folks lazy. And musicians who say "I play better stoned" make me laugh. I could care less who smokes it. But if it makes a practice bad, I usually just move on to a new band. I'm done with the stuff, all of it.

This is a huge misnomer. Pot makes lazy folks lazy. It makes ambitious folks more ambitious. It makes those people whose minds race at 1000 miles a minute slow down a bit and focus. It helps people with appetite problems get hungry. It helps with anxiety. It helps with pain. The truth is pot doesnt make people lazy, those people were lazy to begin with. I won't say 'I play better stoned' but I will say I play just as well stoned as I do sober. Come see my band, I'll prove it.

Pot isnt any more evil than that beer youre drinking.

in what ways? I hear this often, and the most anyone can tell me is that inhaling smoke of any sort is not good for you, which in reality isnt all that good for you, but I can't say its at a level I would deem 'hazardous'.

it can worsen mental health, Fact, that's enough to deem it Hazardous, Fair do's to each his own, but I will always view Weed as always having an effect on a Person, but if you smoke it you more than likely will not notice any effects that it has on yourself.

I went out for lunch with my wife today, and the conversation came around to the music we used to listen to when we were kids. She remarked that a lot of great musicians died of drug and alcohol abuse back then, yet it doesn't seem to be the case today. I told her that it's because the music culture was different back then, a musician was almost expected to do drugs and drink to excess. Today's mentality is different, there's so much more at stake for musicians than ever before. I told her the last young musician I can remember who died at a young age was Kurt Cobain, who died at the age of 27 (suicide) almost 20 years ago.

So what do you think? More drug use today as opposed to years ago, less, or about the same?

The quality of medical care, and the ability of modern medicine and hospitals to "save" individuals today, who even as recently as 10 years ago, might have been goners. I don't think there are less idiots in the world, just tenfold improvement in certain institutions and techniques that allow people to survive their own stupidity.

I said worsen, therefore stating that it would be an existing problem, I didn't say it causes Mental Problems, but it DOES cause Paranoia, That is considered a Mental Health Problem, so yes, It can cause them if you want to look at it that way.

It causes paranoia in some people, not all. If you are one that it causes paranoia in then don't smoke it. I think the majority of pot smokers don't get paranoid though, and it's important to note that unlike those with paranoia that is often associated with mental disorders, the paranoia induced from smoking marijuana is only temporary.

it DOES cause Paranoia
Reading all the conspiracy crap being posted here, by people who support drugs, citing how evil the government is and all that... I think that's all the proof we need about the paranoia part.

Please don't cite wiki and then use that as fact... anyone can write whatever they want on a webpage, yes wiki too! If you get enough gullible people to believe something all of a sudden it becomes true I guess right? I've heard just as much government cover up, infiltration and conspiracies from pro Marijuana People, about drugs as I have the alien crowd, about "Roswell".

The truth is the government is so incompetent it can't legislate itself out of a paper bag and expect me to believe it's somehow capable of some Major drug conspiracies and cover ups for 30 years? Please... I suppose you think 911 was an inside Job too right? More proof why drugs should be illegal if you ask me. You really have very little clue about how the government operates if you think they could even pull that off. It's unfortunate how poorly educated people are in this country, but I suppose that's got nothing to do with an increase in drug usage either...

You probably work for the DEA.

Your remarks have been incredibly sophomoric and uninformed. You're just mindlessly opining, whereas others in this thread are providing theories and at least trying to back them up with some kind of research or evidence. Talk about uneducated... :eyebrow:

Keep believing everything the government tells you, and you'll have a rude awakening to the truths of life when things start to crumble and fall... oh they already are... so get ready.

You'd think that the "invasion" of U.S. territory would be enough of a reason for them to take action. It's sad that money has to be a factor in something like this.

When it comes to this country and the state of things, unfortunately, its always about the bottom line. The bottom line usually being 'how can we squeeze as much profit out of this as possible?'.

Incorrect. You said it would worsen someone's mental health.

That's not the same thing as exacerbating an existing mental condition... In fact, those two things are quite different.

But what do I know, I'm just a pot smoker.

Why should "this" be any different from anything else? Money is a factor in everydamnthing.

Really? C'mon now, did you really just ask that?

Huge difference in turning or losing a buck than there is foreign cartel's coming in and just taking over huge chunks of another countries land mass. If a foreign army did this we'd be at war with them, there should be no difference between that and cartel's doing it.

Don't make the mistake of confusing a temporary state of feeling paranoid with the clinically diagnosed chronic mental disorder of paranoia. Saying that smoking marijuana makes someone paranoid is really saying that it makes someone feel paranoid while they are under the influence of the drug. That is not the same as being clinically diagnosed with paranoia. One is a symptom the other is a chronic clinical condition.

Not to jump your s**t so don't take it the wrong way.

You know, it's also the same as the common mistake of saying someone is "in shock" when they have been stunned. "Shock" is actually a medical condition in which the brain is not getting an adquate supply of oxygen rich blood (to over simplify it). People go into shock when they are bleeding to death, for example. Getting the crap scared out of you isn't being "in shock" it's being stunned. Just pointing this out because it's a common mistake just like assuming that feeling paranoid means that you have Paranoia.

Sorry...class dismissed. :hiding:
