Looking to buy a drum machine. Whats good?

The discontinued Roland R8 series is the best I've used. I have fooled many good musicians with drum tracks I built on that thing.

Can you help a brother out and direct me otherwise and suggest which "TB" section I should be in?

using the korg beat boy, kind of lo fi with straight beats, a digital recorder, build in od and distortion, and a tuner (we use a laptop for chopping up the beats and rearranging them)

Our drummer took a new job and now misses 1/2 of our church performances. I'm giving the beatbuddy a try, it arrives tomorrow. I've been reading about how it's designed and you can try the beatbuddy manager for free. The manager software has a virtual beatbuddy pedal designed into it to I've been able to figure out how it works before having it. The manager software is free to download so you can try it before you spend a dime on the actual pedal. It's not cheap, ~$300.

It's designed for live performance so it's less work but less capable than a full blown drum machine but also specifically designed to be used live. Here's a link:
