For a drummer/ bass player perfection duo I would say Phil Rudd and Cliff Williams respectively.
There is something about their chemistry that in that style of music that is unrivaled.
Rudd hitting the crash with the snare on every other beat during Angus’ solos and Malcolm’s chugging’ away... all day for me

Emphasis on "really good drummer." Pans out to "really good feels" — that's the drummer who gets all the gigs and, hypothetically, so then would the dedicated, tuned-in bass player Good feel, in sync, is the focus.

Another vote for Ziggy Modeliste and Tony Allen. Bit I also very much like Stanton Moore. He’s extremely musical and supportive of the song. He goes from an extremely steady groove to far out wildness, without loosing track of the music. It must be both extremely comfortable en challenging to play with him. I like playing along to his music because it teaches me how the interaction between bass and drums is about more than interlocking with the bassdrum.

One i really should not have forgotten earlier. Anika Niles, especially if you are interested in weird time signatures and quintuplets. Also Jost Nickel, who actually taught Anika back in the day has some great grooves. While in that part of the world I'll throw in Benny Greb too. Germany has a whole "thing" of brilliant drummers.

Whereas that (for me)...... while impressive, sounds like someone trying to impress with every paradiddle and trick they have.

Chris isn't for everyone, neither was his band dillinger escape plan. He is playing there to basically show how great he is at polyrhythms and his insane stick control.

I prefer to listen to Darren as well. Grooves...

I grew up on Ginger Baker and John Bonham (can't believe he wasn't mentioned) and still hear their beats in my head. But one drummer I love to listen to is Carter Beauford, and I'm not a huge fan of the band.
