Hi guys,

Myself and a friend started a band a couple of months back, and we've been playing off and on with another drummer, but he can't commit to the band as he's already with another, he's just helping us out.

I've put ads on the net, and on gumtree, but we are struggling to find anybody who is good enough or lives close enough.

Ive even emailed a couple of drum Tutors to see if any students would be up for it.

Any other suggestions on how to find somebody?

Good drummers are even harder to find than good bassists. In the last band I formed, I eventually got fed up and got ahold of a drum set and took over drum duties, leaving me to then deal with a bass player who was not as good as me. It is always something... just keep talking to other musicians.

I have never had trouble finding a good drummer. They are about as common as guitarists. The hardest people to find are bass players and good singers. In addition to placing ad, you might want to try searching ads to see if there are any drummers who are looking for a band.

Just curious you say you can't find a "good" enough one- are you any good yourselves? (or is this a start-up type situation?)
In other words take a hard look at what you have to offer, that may be where the problem lies.

Will this project gig shortly? or not?

Hi Martin. Do you have good paying gigs on the books yet or is this a start up? Also and what do you mean by "another drummer" are there two? Oh and hit all the local music store billboards and etc.

Our original drummer wasn't great and was holding us back. Wasn't learning the songs and his timing was shocking, so we got rid of him.

We are not looking to gig anytime soon, probably will be though in around 6 months or so I reckon.

Myself and the guitarist/singer are only just starting out ourselves in a band, so are learning every rehearsal, but have decided we need to get a half tidy drummer in, that can at least play in time and learn the songs!

ads in music shops, didn't think of that! Will have to have a look in some of the local music shops next week.

I agree with Joe -- get a paying gig on the books.

Once, when we couldn't find a decent guitar player, and we had a free gig on the horizon (our first one), I advertised for a guitar player and said the pay was $75.00. Got a guitar player like lightening. Three of us kicked in $25 and then reimbursed ourselves the $25 each off the top of the next gig's pay.

As I said in another thread -- money on the table brings out good players.
