I used to run 2x 18 Folded horns and loved them. (In my Avatar they are side by side, I usual stack them, but this flatbed was a rocking). I use 2x 12's now , much easier to move.

My dream rig is a 2X18" sitting under an 8X10"...maybe bi-amped...

I used an 18 under two tens for several years...bloody big damn cumbersome thing it was.

Finally got my other 18 set up. So far I like it. Definitely doesn’t have that top end sparkle, but very classic sounding and I can get enough highs.
Holy crap that is a lot of stuff. Do you actually carry all that to a gig?
The typical load out is the 2x10, 1x18, power amp rack, and processing rack. I add the second 1x18 if I'm doing a hip hop gig with no PA support. It looks like a lot, but I'm strong and I own a two wheel dolly, so it's no big deal.
It's worth noting that I do cover and sub work often times without an amp at all, just bringing a bass and a Radial DI, so the situation really dictates how much amp I bring.
I use to run two Peavey 1820's with a rack bi-amped system then, I got old and fat

I have to say it sounds pretty good. I tried a P Bass and an L-2000 through it today.

For me, heavy metal + barely a PA to sing through = bass is on your own. Bring the thunder!!! ....and yes 4x10 & 1x18

Do you notice the bottom 1x18 having more low end than the top 1x18? I have a similar rig, WD-800 with one or two SVT-18 cabinets. Learned the hard way that the PA system at outdoor gigs may or may not have adequate speakers, if any, to produce solid low end. Have yet to use both at a gig, only when practicing at home. I suspect there is coupling with the bottom cabinet, which is enhancing the low end.

Yeah, the bottom cab will definitely benefit from floor coupling, which is why I have run them next to each other at a gig instead of stacked. (Although both were on casters which reduces it a bit). I haven’t tried running them together and stacked (except in our band rehearsal space which is a terrible room to judge sound).
When I was in a doom band years ago I loved folded horn 18s and 8x10s biamped. I always needed the 810s for the mids and highs because horn loaded 18s didn't produce the clank I like. But they sure produced the volume and bass foundation I like.
I'd be willing to bet normal 18 cabs with a forward facing driver would be fine, if you like darker tones.

This is my rig that is usually is set up with two 18s. Only one in the pic right now because my other....ahem... locked up and literally caught on fire mid show and burned to the ground out in front of the club after I yanked it out of the system and pushed it out into the street. We finished our show with just one 18 and the two 15s. The survivor is also an EV18, really great speakers that can cover the full range solo. The cabs are PAS and the dead one was a PAS speaker....so....if anyone out there has an old PAS 18 cab that they wanna get rid of I'd take it.
I also have an SVT 8x10 that will run to one side of my power amp and one 15 and 18 to the other side. Sounds amazing. I'm all about 18s and would be very happy to find another matching PAS 18 cab to replace my dead soldier. Otherwise I'll probably make my own copy.

I own a couple of Carvin single 18" cabinets, just an 18" no horn (I don't think they ever made one with a horn).
The only time I ever used both was in conjunction with the two Carvin 15" cabs I also own, but I used the four of them as subs for a PA outside. Two ohms per side (they are four ohm cabinets) powered by a QSC RMX-2450. So 2400 watts. It was pretty slammin.
I've used a single 18" a lot, in conjunction with a 2 x 10" Carvin cab on top, powered by rack system with a QSC PLX1602. That is a 1,000 watt rig and I never wanted for more power, even on huge stages (venues of like 800 people or outside).
Funny thing when I set up that rig I figured I would wind up using the sensitivity controls on the front of the power amp to "balance" the two cabs since I was running them full range.
Well it turns out turning it up wide open, the cabs were perfectly balanced. So I just turned up the amp and let it rip.
I got a lot of compliments on the sound of that rig, even from an old grizzled veteran soundguy at a large club that has national acts (typically ones from years ago who can no longer fill 1,000 seat venues); he told me it was the best sounding bass stage rig he had heard in a long time, didn't overpower the PA but he didn't have to turn up the drum monitor much at all for the drummer to hear it.
I only got to use that rig on maybe 20% of the gigs we played though, it was just too much for the small rooms we tended to play.

I kind of smiled and told him it was only on about 4 with the master volume on my preamp, there was plenty more left to go
I only got to use that rig on maybe 20% of the gigs we played though, it was just too much for the small rooms we tended to play.
