You say you're "upgrading", so what are you looking for in a compressor that the Boss doesn't do?
Looking for more co
I want more transparency, and control over the attack. I have just got used to controlling attack/release with guitar comps, and really want that too.
Boss only gives me Ratio and Threshold. I could care less about Enhance and feel it is an overly aggressive presence control.
They are both good units. I found a demo online of the Duncan compressor that sold me on it. Its been on my bass board for years nowI found the MXR M87 was an upgrade from the LMB-3 and quite transparent. The first thing you'll want to do is find volume parity. Plug in your bass and start playing normally. Adjust your input so you have a few bars showing on the meter. Now set the output so when you turn the pedal off, your bass is at the same volume. You have achieved parity! Next: adjust the other knobs to taste. FYI, I found my passive basses are input 3:00 and output 9:00, my actives are closer to noon on input & output. Have not tried the Seymour Duncan compressor.
You don't want the Duncan as the attack has a limited range of adjustability if it's anything like the predecessor, the DoubleBack. I can hear it; others can not.
What guitar comps have you used?
