During band practice how is a singer heard?

The band I work with has a small (growing) PA, and we mix from the stage. We just turn the mains around. A bit of kick drum in the mains, some guitars, and the vocal mics, but.....

There's this thing called a Jam Hub. Some of us have been gassin' hard for one of these.

1)Does it work well?

2) Does it tighten up the band like a quiet practice ?

we do it all the time. and yes, it definitely contributes to making the band tighter by forcing everyone to concentrate on the music and their playing, rather than glossing over mistakes hidden in their "tone".

+1 for Standupright. Follow this path and you might suddenly find you are recreating hi- fidelity sound at a gig. Shouldn't it always be about the sound of the band?

My chick singer gets all riled up and pouting if you even make the slightest hint at suggesting her to buy a PA for herself. She takes it too personally.

At the moment, we use a PA everyone from my band has paid for - that includes me, who doesn't even need it in the first place. Same goes for the drummer. So by extension, she got away cheap for that one.

yeah my old singer was like that, I told her if im paying for the PA dont expect to see a dime from paying gigs until I get the cash back on the PA or she can simply sing really loud into her unplugged mic. I never understood why they think all they need to do is buy a $99 mic and they are good to go.
