Can anyone show me what the internal layout of an EA Wizzy 12 speaker looks like? A Wizzy 12 speaker in good working order found its way to my place and I'd like to put it to use. I know it is a propietary design. I'm not going into production, just making a single cabinet and I'd like to do it correct, rather than building a poor design and then having everyone who checks it out think that it the speaker is at fault.

I contacted EA and they told me the internals are just a speaker and the wires- no crossover or any other complicated internal electronics, but no disclosure on the layout. I know I can buy an empty cab and install the seaker, but it is much nicer to have a good looking cabinet made from some of my offcuts of beautiful solid woods like curly maple and Honduras mahogany leftover from the instruments, rather than just some MDF covered in black plastic. 'Maybee even take it into the spraybooth and 'burst it to match my bass....

Thanks for your help.

There are many good cabinet designs out there. Euphonic Audio is know for using a Transmission Line design, which places a wave guide (think of a Bose wave sound system) inside the cabinet. The Wizzy 12 M Line has a M shaped wave guide inside the cabinet. The Wizzy 12 looks to be just a standard Thiel cabinet, but since one can't see inside the cabinet there may be other bracing and porting inside that one cannot see.

Modern cabinets tend not to be constructed from beautiful solid wood, they are usually built from void free, baltic birch (i.e. Bag End Cabinets) which, as you know is very heavy, regular high grade plywood, or the newer lightweight poplar plywood. What you don't want is a cabinet that resonates like an instrument. So my recommendation would be to find the plans for a Thiel bass cabinet on the internet, they're free, and build it roughly the same size as a Wizzy 12. Just my opinion though.

James, I've got TWO broken Euphonic CXL-112 non-whizzy cabs that you can take a peek inside.

One of the guys at ea told me I could put a Wizzy speaker in my cab without a lot of hassle...so if you wind up selling the speaker you have, let me know!!

Call me up and we can arrange a drop off.
