ear protection

hi justin!

I was wondering if you ever get to use any earplugs or other protections while performing live.
it's a topic that's really been bothering me a lot lately.
the damage range is so "low" compared to the average gig loudness.
it really kind of scares me and I do believe that the average musician is really lacking of awareness on the topic.
I use some Etymotic eraplugs, it was hard in the beginning getting used to groove at lower volumes, but after reading things like these I just decided I can't stand any compromise.
I was wondering what the thoughts of a pro were.

thanks!

I don't use earplugs, no. But I do, with NIN (or did), use in-ear monitors, which are a controlled environment.

Otherwise I don't use 'em, and probably should.

I don't really have any thoughts, other than people should be aware and be careful. If you want to wear earplugs, do it, and don't submit to peer pressure that you can't "feel the music" that way.

Best,
JMJ
