Earplugs....Or No!

I've been considering for a long time to get ear plugs. I've worried that they will kill the fidelity though.

This is a great thread and your guys input and opinions have convinced me to get some. I'll try the er-20's. If I like them I guess it would then be worth getting the custom fit ones.

Great info!

Would you rather have the fidelity of the sound at loud volumes ruined for short periods of time, or have the fidelity of every sound all the time ruined?

Souds a bit harsh, but thats what it comes down to

hey guys,

I've been looking to get myself a pair of custom ear plugs and I just came across this forum. I have some questions I was hoping I can get answered here:

1) Do you know of any custom ear plugs that can ALSO be used with in-ear monitors? I'd love to have this option.

2) I'm a singer (as well as an instrumentalist) and am a bit concerned that wearing these custom ear plugs will have the same effect as the cheap foam ear plugs when I'm singing (muffled singing voice in my head). I noticed that one person commented on this and said that it's difficult to sing even w/ the custom ear plugs. Any others with opinions & experiences regarding this?

3) Does anyone know where I can get the best deal on the custome ear plugs? I spoke to an audiologist who sells Westone products and she quoted me $180. It looks like some people were able to get them for about $100.

Thank you!

I wish they had those when I first started attending rock concerts and playing shows of my own. I used to use similar earplugs when I used to play out a lot and believe me, I'm eternally grateful for it :hyper: ....

All it takes is one bad feedback spike from an inexperienced sound man to render you partially if not totally deaf!!!
