earthing issue?

Gday a few months ago i put a new preamp in my cort and shielded the control and pup cavities with the bronze tape ****. before i did all this work i have changes my battery maybe 2-3 times over around almost 2 years. since then ive gone flat twice with almost fully charged batterys. I am guessing i wires it up wrong somehow ao was wondering if, when grounding to the tape, you ground all the wires to the volume pot then another wire from that to the tape or did i just stuff it up?

wow its been a little more than a day since i said i would post photos, but things are more important in life than other things so they had to come first. anyway, is anyone able to help at all?

I really can't tell much from the pics but one common wiring error is made with the three wires to the jack. The output jack is normally used to turn the power to the pre on and off. A stereo jack is used and when the male mono jack is plugged in, it will connect the ring connection to the sleeve (ground) connection and supply power to the pre.

It should be wired like this...
Signal from preamp to the tip connection.
Battery negative to the ring connection.
Preamp ground to the sleeve connection.

It sounds like you have the battery negative and the preamp ground shorted together and the preamp is staying on.

You are unplugging the cord when the bass is not in use?

ill double check those wires when i can. and i am leaving it pulgged in but before i replaced the preamp, i always left it plugged in and it lasted for months. i know this can drain the battery somewhat, but the batterys now die within a week.
