Easy Question

I'm getting ready to install the electronics in my SX PJ custom project. The pots I bought have the little tab sticking up on the top to lock them in place. Do most people drill a hole through the pickguard for these or clip them off and use starwashers to keep the pots from working loose?

I never use pickguards, but in the past I've taken a pair of needle-nose pliers and bent the tabs to a 45-degree angle. This lets the pot sit flush against the wood, but still provides a bit of "bite" from the tab.
