EB Cobalt Flats players – how often do you change them?

I know there are some flats players who *never* change them, but these strings are sort of a different animal. They haven't lost that much brightness in the year plus since I've had them on and broken in to the point where the stickiness is gone, but I'm curious if people are treating them more like a roundwound than a typical flat.

I put them on my Eppi Thunderbird Vintage Pro and they were great until the G string broke at the bridge saddle after 8 months. It happened during the last song of a cover band gig. There’s no sharp edge on the saddle and I hadn’t broken a string for 3 decades before that.
