Ebay Bidders

I just wanted to vent a bit here, I always (usually) feel among friends. I put a nice Hohner B2V up there for sale last week. It had real - new EMG PUPS, speed knobs and other upgrades. I started it off at $150 with free shipping. All went well then I got these two different bidders with zero feeback bid it up to $890 bucks, wowza way over the top. . Of course neither of them have gotten back to me. I wrote them both before and after the auction ended. I have started conversations with ebay about it and learned that you can cancel bids before the auction ends. Something new for me.

Anyway so goes life, just thought I'd seek some sympathy:)

You can retract your bid anytime you want before the auction ends. However you have to provide a reason. If you bid on something and win, Ebay says it's a binding contract although I don't know how they'd enforce making the winning bidder pay. I guess they reserve the right to suspend that member's account but what's keeping them from signing on again with another bogus account. I don't really know. Otherwise, just leave them negative feedback until the Ebay Seller community just bans them.

Sellers do that too with bogus accounts so they can pad their auctions (Not saying that you do that. Just saying ebay fraud happens on both ends).

I've never had a major problem with buying or selling. One dude took a month to pay for something but I don't know if I can blame him 'cos I only accepted MO or Cashier's Check....still 4 weeks to pay for something that you bidded fiercely to win was weird. I'd have sooner sold it to the next highest bidder and gotten paid right away.

I just checked the Help section and there's a whole section on Retracting\Cancelling. You're supposed to bid again if you cancel\retract or else you're in violation of Ebay policies. Those losers probably had their accounts suspended but probably just signed up again with another bogus account.

any low- or zero-feedback bidders get turfed if they don't immediately respond to an email/msg... everybody's got to start somewhere but if they're incommunicado right off the bat then usually they're some time-wasting humanoid.

That's a good practice. You don't need to hang around while somebody wastes your time. I have on one occasion, withdrawn my bid when I couldn't get an Email response from a seller who'd begun to smell fishy. It's allowed in the Ebay rules and I never had a problem with them about it.

I've bought and sold quite a lot of stuff on the 'bay very successfully with only one bad experience (my own fault, could easily have seen it coming, worked out OK in the end anyway). Generally, the things that help keep things from getting dramatic are: common sense suspiciousness, taking time to read the rules, taking action quickly when needed and keeping a respectful tone when corresponding with someone I may suspect, but have no proof against. :bassist:

Of course the new policy of no negatives from sellers will just make eBay an even better, more secure place to do business.
