ebay duds?

I want to get an American Standard P Bass, mainly because I like my friend's MIM P Bass so much. I want to get it used off ebay, but what is the likelihood that, with an American Standard P Bass, I could get a dud that, although not physically damaged, doesn't sound very good? Thanks.

dono but test it out very well cuz i bought an old 35mm camer & didn't test it before the time expired it was too late for me to send it back & the person who sold it to me was liike o well your fault for not checking it he even admitted he knew it was a lemon grrrrrrrrrr some people!
good luck

be prepared to have it set-up again and gt the strings you like,,,,,, I look at it like this especially with a P they all have a sweet spot in the set up and the right strings are the frosting on the cake....

its a P..... the one thing I look for in Fender basses is how tight is that neck joint and some of my basses I had the neck taken off and had very thin sheets of wood added to tighten that up when the neck goes back on..

with ebay be sure you know its a US made bass though,,, thats wihere the risk is... T

Three things. First, ebay is always gonna be a crap shoot. In my experience most of the time people are on the level, but the opportunity for deception is certainly there. Stick with buyers who have >50, all positive feedback and you'll probably be ok. Avoid people with less than 20 transactions if possible, avoid less than 10 at all cost.

Second, an "American Standard P bass" can be decent or junky depending on the year it was made. The S-1 switches should be avoided IMO. Fender changed their production in 2008 for the better, so if you can get one made in the last three years that appears to be in good shape you'll probably be happy.

Third, check the classifieds here on TB. I think everyone here is more or less on the up and up, and you can probably get a better deal. I did- bought a 2008 Am P earlier this year on TB and it's one of the best transactions I've ever experienced, and one of my favorite basses too!

Good luck

I would be more comfortable buying a used MIA Fender off Craigslist simply because it affords me the chance to play it and inspect it in person first. Also, Ebayer's are generally looking for top dollar on that kind of bass, a lot of CL sellers simply need to sell fast and are a bit more realistic with their pricing.
