EBMM StingRay Special Club

Picked up my SRS 5HH from Mike Lull's shop. Had the fret ends filed and had it Pleked. I spoke with Mike's GM and he said that the frets weren't glued in, only pressed in, which isn't a good thing. They had to glue the frets in order to do the Plek so that they wouldn't move during the process, plus, its just much better now that the frets are actually glued in. Much more solid. C'mon Ernie-Ball, glue your frets. Ended up costing a little more than I planned but it's literally better than new now and plays much better.
Now Im just experimenting with all the available tones this bass has to offer. It's a lot! Also put a tort guard on and have solid pickup covers. I think the tort guard actually looks kinda cool but I'll put up a poll and see what y'all think. I'll post some pics when Im done screwing around and get a chance.

If I’m completely honest about mine, it’s exactly the colour I wanted, but I’m fairly sure it’s not one of the best Specials they made that day. It’s all in the wood right, so perhaps this one just doesn’t have as much mojo as the others. My old 3 band Ray had that mojo in buckets regarding the wood, I’m not into white basses but just had to buy it. My Old Smoothie has that same mojo too, but this particularly Special doesn’t acoustically have that, and the ones in the shop that did were too heavy for me.

That said, this Special is still an outstanding bass which does exactly what I want it to, and sounds great. All said and done, it’s a keeper.

I hope your bass finds its mojo, baby! Maybe it just needs a good shagging....

I’m not surprised, the fret sprout has been corrected for now but I doub’t EB glued the frets when mine was sent back for fret work.

I take it gluing frets is the norm? I don’t know anything about the process. Is there an evidence-based reason why they would or wouldn’t glue them?
