EBMM: Why Isn't a Custom Order Really a "Custom" Order?

Didn't an EBMM forumite just recently special order a pink Classic SR4 with a custom breast cancer awareness ribbon applied under the clearcoat? I'm not questioning whether it was a worthy cause, because it certainly is, but this notion of not being able to special order a bass is BS. Putting stealth parts on a white bass couldn't have taken any more time. I think it ultimately depends on if you're "in the clique" or not.

That being said, I like the company. They have provided me excellent customer service, I visit the bass forum there and they make really cool basses. In the end, Mr. Ball can run his operation however he sees fit.

EB's and the dealer's profits for that bass went to the member's charity. It was a bass built for women suffering from breast cancer really. Sterling does stuff like that. I know of another instance where another member had cancer and Mr. Ball challenged the members to raise a certain amount of money, give it to the member and to match he will give the latter a bass for free. I myself was taken cared of after my former dealer stole my deposit for a Dargie and used it to purchase drugs.

Yeah Sterling is such a jerk.

Yeah Sterling is such a jerk.

He does have a very kind heart and takes good care of his customers.

I don't mind the control freak part of his character as it is his forum, but I do take offense to his flip and mean spirited remarks to any who question or don't agree with his plan. It must have been very hard to grow up under the shadow of a very famous dad and perhaps that is the catalyst.

Many find him to be a jerk at numerous levels and the obvious solution is to stay away from such a (IMO) disfunctional board, (which is working nicely for me).

By the way, Sterling Ball himself gave me a quite satisfactory answer over there and it made perfect sense to me. I'm over it. Besides, my SR 4H Stealth SLO w/Ebony just arrived via FedEx! Gonna play around with her then strip her down and get her ready for the refinish. Should be a nice compliment to my Sterling 4HS Stealth when all's said and done.

Ummmm seems that the OP is happy, so why are you guys still bitching? Man, I don't understand this forum sometimes..:rollno:

I was playing with a guitarist who is actually an endorsed EB/MM artists. He got me in touch with his rep there and I was told flat out "we don't do customer orders". I thought this was pretty whack. I'm sure they do things for artists who are big enough. I guess it's just not worth it to them. No hard feelings, just thought it was strange.

At one point they wouldn't give flea a signature model... Or so I heard. That's why he switched to Modulus and they came out with the flea bass, but flea played an EB before that.

Still does have cancer unfortunatly.. But Sterling and everyone on that forum really took care of me when i needed it the most. Saved my house, my marriage, probably my life, and i'm doing better. Still not 100% but I'm rockin' and rollin' as much as possible.

I never said he was - why do you imply I did?

The problem is - and he's addressed several times before - is that many people with an internet connection and computer seem to think that they have a sense of entitlement; that they can comment and criticize anything and everything. Many times it goes way beyond what is reasonably acceptable. Suddenly, everyone is a music manufacturing expert!

How many times can you answer questions like "what is the best pre-amp upgrade to install in my Stingray" and "why don't you guys offer the option that I want" types of questions? I am sure I would get grumpy at times given the same circumstances.

There's no doubt that the EBMM forum is there to promote EBMM products and have a little fun too.

I'm glad to hear that the original poster found a good solution. I think the bass will look really nice in white with the stealth hardware. Post some pictures once it's done.
