I like both black and white but I become picky about the FB wood with either.

Black basses look best to me with a maple neck/FB and I much prefer white basses with rosewood or ebony.

Throw a tortoise pickguard on either one and I'm happy.

I took this photo over the weekend and thought someone might enjoy it. These are 2 of my Elricks. The black one is a Standard evolution 5 with a Gabon Ebony fingerboard. The white one is a Gold Series evolution Fretless 5 with a Pink Ivory fingerboard.

I tend to go dark or light with basses. Rarely any colors in between. Anyone else have the black/white thing going on with their basses?

Never seen pink ivorywood large enough to be used for a fretboard before. Used to be that only the Zulu Chief was allowed to cut it down.

I’ve changed the color 4 times while waiting. I’ve done black, trans white, trans pink and now I’ve settled on Surf Green.

Have you seen trans surf green?

I like unique basses. I like black basses, but that's largely because I like putting neon strings on them. The black makes the neon really pop. I'm the only guy I know of in my area who uses neon strings.

But I also like wood grains. And unique bursts. And vivid colors. Not a big fan of white or pastels.

The wine color looks fantastic and despite the instrument being 20+ years old, there isn't a single blemish. It would also look very nice with a maple neck. That said, something along the lines of a seafoam green would look even better.

Don't touch it!!! If you want a seafoam green body, you can always buy one.

That's not exactly true. You could put some DR Black Beauties (or some other black strings) and it would be more black.

Agree with @MaryMary varieties the spice and all...but not a fan of white basses unless thier aged, off-white/Oly white. I have 5 black basses to 2 white currently, my others vary in color and finish.

I recently grabbed another 90's Peavey Fury locally because:
1. they are really great basses.
2. the price, to good to pass up.

My vote: colored but you can also see the wood grain. E.g. sunburst, Gibson cherry, etc.

I'll take any colour/finish if everything else about the bass is right.

But if the perfect bass was available in every possible colour/finish, (for "n" number of finishes), the ranking would be:
1. black
2. woodgrain
...
anything else
...
n-3. fluoro colours
n-2. 3-tone classic burst
n-1. 2-tone classic burst
n. anything with pictures or significant patterns/graphics (spots, stripes, paisley, etc.)

Sorry classic "burst with tort" players. It's not you, it's me. Playing for more than 45 years and never could get into that look.
