Double Bass Ebony bow tip?

I saw one on a customer's bow recently and thought it was just too cool not to try. So I took a shot at carving one.. Opinions?

Yes it will naturally be a few oz heavier, but I can't tell a difference when holding it..

Right, I guess what I meant was, does it make it tip-heavy at all, but sounds like the balance is still okay. Seems pretty cool.

That bow looks very classy, especially if you use black hair.

I don't think there will be much of a weight difference, it's just a shim. Maybe use less whalebone/silver wrapping at the other end.

I think we're talking a gram or two-- definitely not ounces. I don't know the relative density of ebony versus ivory, but I would expect they are not all that different.

Ya, what he said! I would assume 1-2 grams difference at the most, if I was thinking, I would have weighed the bow before/after..

Ebony is a lot lighter than bone or Ivory.

African Ebony: ~ 1.1 gm/cc

Elephant Ivory: ~ 1.8 gm/cc

Ox Bone: ~ 2.0 gm/cc

I like the ebony tip. is it one piece? Wondering whether a white strip between the wood and the ebony might look nice to set off the blackness.
