Double Bass Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck, and Zakir Hussein

Saw this trio last night at the Botanic Garden. They were incredible! Of course, Bela plays banjo. It's what a boy from NYC does with the instrument. Zakir is an Indian tabla wizard. Just the best. You can find examples on youtube. The last stop of their tour in Denver last night.

Bela mentioned however that the one piece they played was part of the triple concerto they've written for orchestra and they will be performing with the Denver Symphony Orchestra in May. Must get tickets. Must get the trio's CD as well today.

Edgar's solo piece was some Bach. Very tasty! Their penultimate piece was great. I'll be back with the name. Edgar got down and dirty with his bass. At one point I yelled "slap it Edgar". Yes, I'm a bass geek.

I saw this in london, good seats. I don't mind bela fleck, but at times he gets pretty boring, predictable if you have heard other albums of his. Edgar and Zakir were fantastic but Edgar did seem a bit tired even if it did not show in his performance, he was note perfect. Funny: at one point between pieces Edgar is tuning and retuning a string with octaves, so an older bloke shouts from the back, "it sounds fine!" Edgar was not amused, the crown was, haha. Said hello and shook his hand backstage, he is rather a shy guy, exchanged maybe 2 words with him.

The opening act stole the show though, Julian Lage group. check them out.
