Effects loop placement and noise

Hi all, I’m trying to gain a better understanding of the “why” with this situation. I currently have my effects loop(s), using a Boss LS-2, placed ahead of my radial bassbone v2. My loop has an HX stomp as well as some other pedals that are sub looped via the stomp.

It is dead quiet and sounds great.

This routing does create complexity on my board and takes up real estate, however.

I’ve experimented with another setup, instead placing the loop downstream within the effects loop of the Radial Bassbone V2. This results in major hiss/noise. Help me understand why.

The good thing is that my current setup works well, so no absolute need to change it. But I think understanding what might be causing the difference here could be useful.

I’ve got the original Bassbone, never had any problems with the loop, which only has modulation and tremolo in it. Why do you use the LS-2, instead just running the HX by itself, before the Radial, if the onboard loop isn’t working out? Do any other effects in there create any problems?

Yes, I actually have both versions of the Bassbone and the same problem presents for each. Effects loop is usually fine for 1-2 pedals. To answer your question, I don't like what the Stomp does to my dry tone, as a pass through, and its built-in bypass is clunky, so that's why I sequester it with a loop. I just use it for the effects when needed, and the complex switching that the material I play requires.
