Effects Order!

I have the following effects and was wondering what y'all would recommend for a signal chain:

- Polytune Mini
- Diamond Bass Compressor
- MXR Bass Octave Deluxe
- Darkglass Vintage Microtubes
- Zoom MS-60B
- Darkglass Duality
- Darkglass B7K

Notes:

- I would kinda like to leave the B7K as the last in my chain so that all my effects will be sent to the DI, but aren't stuck on that if it's a bad idea.

- the Zoom will mostly be used for mod/reverb fx. I also have a tiny true bypass looper for it so it will be trye bypassed when not in use.

just a theory, but i would do
bass>tuner>comp>octave>dirt>ms60b

i don't have any experience with the zoom, is this for more textural things, chorus or what not?

the biggest question mark for me would be the compressor. octaves like a clean signal for better tracking, however, dirt already has a little compression on it.

also, keep in mind combining the overdrives may have a cool effect, but the order doesn't really matter much if you don't have more than one pedal turned on at a time.

Bryan Beller did an article awhile back for Bass Player Magazine called pedalboard primer. Really good break down and a good starting point. Helped me get the most out of my effects. Would post the link but am on mobile right now and don't know how to do it. A quick google search would bring it up.

I actually followed the guidelines from that article when I first started putting a bass pedalboard together. A lot of the advice is great, but I'm finding the compressor is just getting overloaded at the end of my chain. I'm gonna experiment with having it first and the rest will pretty much follow his recommendations.

I would get an MXR preamp and pop that just after your compressor. It'll allow you to drive some mid EQ into your MXR Octave Deluxe, which tracks way better if you pull back the bass a tad and boost the 600hz mids by about 8-10db. It also opens up a load of tonal pallets for the octaver and other effects. making the tedious mid boost button the octaver redundant, which has all the usefull controls round the back needing micro switches and micro twiddling, hardly user friendly! I would pop your Zoom right on the end of the chain and maybe get another DI for the final output. I use my amp's DI for this, but your ambiance really needs to be right on the end of the path for the max clarity. Chorus FX seem to live best here too, so your Zoom MS-60B is a great thing to have on the end of your chain. But put the reverb as one of the last patch bays on the zoom pedal so that's the last thing it does. I'd put your dirt together, VMT > Duality > B7K in that order, but I think you have that sussed already. I'd use the B7K's EQ as my output EQ before my chorus and verb. It's good to have an EQ at the beginning of the chain to drive through your effects and then a final EQ near the end of your chain to tweak your output tone for your amp / PA. Some people put their ambiance outside of their DI chain because it can muddy up the PA mix...although it'll sound great through your amp. What amp are you using?

Same here. I put my compressor second in my chain right after my tuner. I use the JHS Green Tea which has a blender so I have my dirt pedals hooked up to that. I then spit my signal back out and follow Beller's recommendations from there on out.

Let us know what you finally settle on. Looking forward to reading what works out. I am in the middle of doing a revamping of my board so like to hear what others are doing.

That is the way I would leave it. Maybe try putting the 60b after the comp or the VMT. Depending on what youre using it for. And your fuzz earlier.
