Electo Harmonix users, Help! How do you power 24V using the 9V DC on pedalboards

+1 - I've done this myself.

The isolation is the key - it prevents the conflicts you'd find if you daisy-chained those 24VDC pedals with 9VDC pedals.

In the end... EHX's circuit designs are to blame. But because they're 24VDC oddities, they didn't exactly anticipate someone trying to power those pedals with anything other than their own supply. :p

Just been wondering - why are many of us so resistant to simply affixing Velcro to the least visually offensive power strip we can find and foregoing all of these annoying voltage issues?

I've got one of Invalid Link Removed on my board. It's made my affinity for EHX and vintage pedals (like my AC-only Morley wah (you'd better believe that's in a true-bypass loop! :D)) much more manageable. And an unexexpectd bonus - I get positive comments from engineers and A/V guys who think it's cool that I've got, "a Furman," on my pedalboard.

24VDC on a 2.5mm barrel plug is hardly proprietary!

Besides, EH don't make power supplies and it costs them money to provide them with along their products.

Plus, given the amount of times EH has failed as a company and had to be bailed out, then clearly this 'revenue generation' technique isn't working!!!

I fail to see how it generates revenue - they do provide the power supplies.

Now, if you had to buy those wall warts separately (cough) (cough) BOSS and most pedal manufacturers in general (cough) (cough)... or if they made a special power supply brick for all EHX brand pedals... (cough) (cough) MXR (cough) (cough), it'd be a different story. ;)

Try living in the UK. We get power supplies - US ones!

Blame your importer not EH. Here in Australia we get Aussie power supplies substituted into the packaging by the importer!

I'd be demanding a price reduction if the power supply you are supplied doesn't suit the country in which it is sold! That's just ridiculous.

I was just looking into this since my AGRO is 24v. The voodoo labs box seems great since it also has room for one wall wart on the back. So you could use one wall wart, bridge two channels for another pedal, and still have some bandwidth left for your other pedals. I was about to get one, but it won't fit on my board the same way a surge protector will ...

Of course, whatever gives the owner the most satisfaction is the best choice. Quality surge protectors are extremely reliable and available in unobtrusive housings. I run through a power conditioner, so noise is no better or worse. For me, it's more than worth the somewhat larger footprint to forego the hassle and significant price of trying to find some other way to transport 9, 12, or 24 volts to their respective destinations.

Again, I'm not trying to convince you to swap out your PS or convince anyone that my way is better - just that there is an alternative to this particular hassle.

30 years ago when the MS was designed it wasn't as if 24V adapters were all that common I'd imagine (they aren't even common today), which is why EH built the power supply into the pedal. It's probably just cheaper or less labor intensive to use a wall wart these days.

I've been having to same problem trying to power my Q-Tron.

I was told about this, £50 but might be worth it if you're really that desparate!

Hope that helps. I can't understand why there's not more products out there that do this, it can't be that complicated to build!
