Electrical Engineers: What is it that you DO exactly?

I'm an EE. I design and develop industrial sensors and controls.
I write embedded software and design analog / digital circuits. I've had long stretches of developing networked products, digital controls and primarily analog and a lot with all three. For me it involves different stuff from design to design-test to packaging to writing users manuals and content for sales literature. I do have techs to help prototype an engineering support designer to help with mechanical and documentation so that's nice. There's also agency approvals like UL and FM to manage.

I have 2 jorbs. :)

One is working for a Distributor of electronic components, I help them target engineer needs and assist in technical breakdown of their products lines and which markets to target with the manufacturers they represent. It's quite fun. I get to attend distributor specific meetings from some of the biggest names (ON, Kemet, MuRata, Walsin) and learn about technologies/products that are about as new as it gets.

The other is part time designing solid state AC motor controls. We are finding that in our area EE's are hard to come by in the industrial market, everyone likes telecom jobs. :hmm:

Tinkering is always fun, I have been testing some of the "Audio Grade" electrolytic capacitors.
