So I have been needing to get a compressor for a while and I have been looking at the MXR Bass Comp because I know you cannot go wring with it, however, I am not crazy about the price. I recently found out about the Electro Harmonix Tone Corset and I like the price of this one a lot more. Has anyone used a tone corset in the passed and is it a good compressor or should I just fork up the cash for the MXR?
I personally was not a fan of the MXR, but it depends on the type of sound you want. You may want to read through this thread: Testing Compressors: Cali, Smoothie, Empress, Diamond, Keeley, FEA, Darkglass, Doc Lloyd, JHS & more
So many compressors to choose from these days it is hard to know where to go, they all sound different, feel different just like fuzz pedals there is no one size fits all. Even a player like myself that hates comps has a couple on hand just in case. I am most interested in the new offering from MXR Bass Dyna Comp Mini
The Empress can be had for $ 20.00 more than the MXR on Amazon and it’s very transparent with easy to dial in sound. I just got mine the other day. Read scuba’s reviews here on TB. He reviews many different ones. It really depends on what you want the compressor to do. I wanted to stay away from the ones you plug into the computer to change the settings. Did a lot of research and decided on the Empress. YMMV. @mmbongo posted the link to the thread above. Take your time in deciding. There was is much information to take in.
