Electronic Audio Experiments Appreciation Thread

Just ordered the science / EAE mother to try via the next batch from soundparcel... Been wanting to see where it'd fit in the mix of preamp and dirt pedals I've got

Other than the thread here on TB, there hasn't been much talk of it being used on bass, but the info around it does sound pretty sweet

Also, I was having a play with mine and noticed I was getting a tone of crackle and sizzle with my guitar. I messaged EAE, and they suggested backing off some of the depth, which did the trick.

It's not an issue at higher gain, but it can be quite apparent at low gain settings. John said too much bass content at the input can cause sizzle in the upper frequencies.

Funnily, it was far more noticeable on my guitar, which is pretty dark sounding but less prominent on my bass.

I've missed my Longsword since I sold it and always wanted to grab another. A v2 Longsword came up on eBay, and I couldn't resist. I'm very excited to hear how it sounds compared to the v4.5 I had before.

Stiiiiiiiiilllll waiting on my Prismatic Wall. I reached out to EAE and it turns out that Chicago Music Exchange grossly oversold during their preorder and hasn't communicated properly with EAE on how many outstanding orders they have. I guess I might get mine by the end of October, but who knows. I know EAE is doing the best they can, and I appreciated their response. Sounds like CME kind of screwed them with the volume of orders they took and then didn't communicate well with them to get them fulfilled.

Same. Even told in the last batch that it should be in there according to CME.

I can wait but I think we're at least owed a complimentary Sending for our troubles.

I don't think the delay is EAE's fault, I think CME dropped the ball. CME has certainly not communicated much to me and I didn't buy it from EAE, I bought it from CME. If this pedal wasn't going to do a specific thing that I'm looking for I'd probably cancel and ask for a refund, mainly because of CME's handling of it, but I think it's going to be extremely cool with my upright (among other things).

I don't know how I missed this thread. ..Anyway, I've got one of these on the way!!

I totally agree. I should have clarified that CME owes us extra pedals 😁

The big box Halberd is pretty awesome. I'm liking the 2-in-1 design. I've been running the Halberd side in the DirtMixer's loop and the Ge Boost independently (it doesn't necessarily need a blend, but the contour allows me to turn down the Depth for a different character that's still thick). ..The boosted tones might be my favorite, though. The Germanium adds some weight and grit that lifts it up in the mix. The boost also makes my other dirt sound juicy. Bonus that it only requires one 9v to power both sides.

Looks great!

I love my Halberd, although I mostly use it on guitar currently. I usually flip flop between the dagger and halberd as my go-to bass drive.

Ennybody using a Longsword? Got a notification they’re coming out with an updated version.

It's the best drive I've ever used. I use it all the time - I may pick up a second. I used to use it for higher gain stuff.......then went on an endless search for the perfect low-gain drive.......but every time I found a low-gain drive I thought I liked, I compared it against the Longsword, and the Longsword always sounded so much better. So now, I'm on the endless search for the perfect high-gain drive (which may end up being another Longsword).

Halberd has always intrigued me; are there any great demos of it on bass anywhere? The dual pedal with the Benson boost seems like a perfect solution for me if the Halverd can do low-medium grit with bass

I tried the Halberd first before I got the Longsword. It had some great tones, for sure....but I didn't love the Depth control - maybe it was too interactive for me (I love that all of the EQ in the Longsword is post gain....so you can dial in your dirt, and then shape it without messing up your gain structure). Don't sleep on the Longsword as a low-medium grit pedal.

For anyone curious about EAE dirt, John has a good run down of EAE drives that might be useful:
