Electronics for a Warmoth build?

considering putting together a Gecko 5 string Warmoth. I dig the look, couldn’t care less about resale value, etc. I’d likely build the Gecko as their medium width neck option.

I’m hoping for suggestions on pups/pre combo to get to to my tone goals. I like the growly articulate jazz bass on steroids but with some beef in there tone. I play Peavey Millennium USA basses with GK MB amplification now and my ideal tone is somewhere in that area. You know the one. I’m not experienced with high end pups/ pre’s. But I’m thinking Nordstrand Big Splits May be a good choice for pups. Any suggestions for versatile pre amps to pair with them, or possibly different pups /etc?

Hard to go wrong with Nordstrands. Loving Big Singles with the tone knob and a bit of external eq. Their preamp seems well voiced as well in soundclips. Would make a killer on board setup.

For Jazz Bass tone narrow sensing aperture is what you need. Lots of good options. I would go for hum-cancelling in any case. Aero seems to get a lot of love by those who have tried them. Delano, Aguilar, Bartolini, etc, all make good stuff. Might want to look around youtube and listen for what speaks to you through headphones.

Other good preamps include John East uni-pre(tons of options) and Audere. With the GK you might not even need on board electronics. I was getting delicious tones out of a passive volume/tone setup and MB500.

How important is it to you that the individual pickups are humbucking? If you don't need that as a feature, I'd say rocket right toward Nordstrand Big Singles based on your description of what you want.

If you'd like to solo a pickup and still have no hum, then I'd say go with those Big Splits.. (they're what I have. )

I use a pair of Bigmans and don't focus on the hum when I'm using them in single.

I like them passive.
