After alot of research and reading and not being able find much i thought i would post my questions to see if anyone has the answers....
Im looking at having a custom bass made and have a few questions in regards to the electronics. Im a bit of a noob when it comes to this sort of stuff so please bare with me.
I would like to use a MM style pickup in my bass and have a few different ideas. So here goes:
1) Im immediately drawn to the EMG MMCS pickups. I am under the impression that they have a built in preamp. Will a single MMCS do what is needed or would it be beneficial to look for a preamp aswell?
2) If i was to go with 2 MM style pickups that are one the cheaper side (Wilkinson?) and buy a more expensive preamp (Bartolini, Aguilar) that i can achieve a great sound?
3) Can anyone suggest any pickup/preamps that work well together? or Active pickups that sound great and do not require a preamp?
Any feedback or thoughts would be fantastic as i am trying to way up all of my options. Im trying to find the most solution that is also cost effective.
