Electronics on my custom bass; Any advice?

Hello everyone,

I am refinishing my first bass, and need some advice in pickup and electronics selection.

The bass started out as an Epiphone EB-0, but I've added an ebony fretboard, a Kahler tremolo, and a Bartolini Ric replacement pickup to the bridge position...I'm thinking a Bartolini 4.7 AP for the electronics; anyone have any experience with these electronics, or how they might sound on this bass? I've left the neck pickup stock for now until I can see how it sounds after the bass is finished.

Thank you for any and all help.

The bart preamp sounds great if you like the bartolini sound. When I switched from a bart to an aguilar obp3 pre I noticed a lot more clarity. They say the aggie pre is pretty transparent, so the bart pre puts a good amount of "wooly" color on the tone. What kind of sound are you going for?

I guess the main thing I'm looking for is versatility. I like to use effects sometimes, so I'd like something bright that will respond well to them, but when I'm just playing, I like a warm, defined tone. It sounds like perhaps the Aguilar might be the way to go, then?

I'm just getting into the paint stage at the moment, so it's not looking the best...I just want to get the proper routing done before I start to paint so I don't have to do any more body work. I'll definitely post some pics when I'm done, though

From the pictures, the Aguilar OB-3 doesn't seem to come with pots, so I'm rather stuck on what to use ...I like where the Bartolini has a stacked bass/treble, push pull active passive volume control, blend, and mid with a three way frequency selector switch. (I believe this is the Bartolini HR 4.7 AP). I really want the clarity of the Aguilar, but with the features of the Bartolini...

I'd also like to have an on-off-on switch to run it as series-off-parallel. Can someone please help me figure this out, or point me to a resource that may help? Thanks a lot in advance everyone.

:help:

First off, the feature are pretty much the same other than I don't the the aggie can select 3 mid freqs. Check out best bass gear, Brian can help you out and hook you up. But first know that its not the preamp that allows you to do series/parallel ect. That's all about wiring. Did you know you can have a sweepable mid range with the aggie? Go to that site, do some research, ask Brian and you should be good. Hope this helps.
