Actually Instagram is also considered a "parent platform" now... It's really Tiktok and Youtube that are the prime movers... Snapchat is falling out of favour, now, too.

Hahaha... not at all.. X is mostly for racists and blow-hards.
Curating is a valuable skill, however the default mode of the big social media sites is not to enable the user to act as a curator but to be the curator itself. And the default way they do this is by pandering even more cynically and cutthroatedly than TV executives of 30 years ago could ever hope to be allowed to - and they make those decisions not a few times per season but hundreds of times a second.
I do say "default" because it is possible to bend the algorithms to more accurately align with your aspirations instead of your baseline desires, but I guarantee the vast majority of people using them do not even consider that option, let alone put in the effort to do so.
No, I do not think mindlessly scrolling is more edifying than mindlessly watching sitcom reruns. Your brain has a built in defense mechanism against sitcom reruns - boredom. Social media sites have perfected the art of shutting down that defense mechanism.

Out of all the platforms, I'm still stunned that TikTok has been able to buy enough political support to allow it to exist in its current form.
I lay the blame on parents not social media.
If parents taught their offspring more civility, proper values, and an awareness of the true purpose of social media, then there would be less thuggery and strife, less trolling, less need for accountability.
If parents had the time to invest in raising their kids instead of eking out a 'living', the kind of time Ellen's parents seem to devote to her, then the negative potential of 'social media' would be greatly curtailed. IMO
Long ago I was working on lyrics to a song whose title was to be "Keep Your Face out of My Space." But I never completed them and now MySpace is long gone.

The thing is, she isn't simply playing bass, she's killing it!
She has more basses than I do, I have a dozen, and I think most of them are short-scale basses.
Well, she has two custom Mayones basses and quite a few other basses, but everyone has to start somewhere.
She is the only one I’ve seen not using a pick on that song and her hand strength per the size of her hands is pretty impressive , when I was 11 I was playing a tennis racket along with Beatle albums
Curation is surely a huge part of it. I remember hearing that millennials and onwards were more heavily advertised to but also harder to make effective ads for. That's certainly changed as the years went on, but it took a while. It's also the manner in which the media is consumed. I'm a late millennial. My girlfriend is a late Gen X'er and we consume and curate media in a vastly different way. When I scroll through Facebook, I barely read a thing. Especially since every 3rd post is some trash it's trying to convince me to start following. It's just ads or random crap I have no interest in. I'm looking for memes, a mindless chuckle. She will get irritated and go to her phone to read posts because I "scroll past anything too fast to see if it's even worth comprehending". I'm a lurker, I get a chuckle out of sharing the whole "Gen-Z 'post-humor' surreal memes" with my younger siblings. I barely post and most my peers that do more than the occasional post are generally pretty unhappy on social media anyways.
The 2 youngest (11 and 14) definitely tunnel vision into Snapchat but that's less about random videos and more about being super consumed with that being the preferred method they communicate with friends. I don't get it but when I was their age most people that weren't young weren't down with texting like the kids were at the time. Of course there were cries of the "destruction of proper language" because of texting shorthand.
Yeah, the kids prefer stimulating brain rot, but I can't say I was any different. Mine was just more primitive. I lived on a desktop computer or would go get up to hoodlum stuff. My attention span was just as short, but the kids where I lived would vegetate on early youtube, pre youtube forums, and the internet in addition to theft, trespassing, drinking as a minor, and trying to run over eachother with golf carts from one of the well off kids houses. Not exactly the objectively better situation. I mean, I would say I had more fun with crazier memories, but way more dangerous. Heck, I'm only 30 and some of those folks have already been dead for a few years or more.
I haven't watched her videos in quite a while. She really is doing a great job!
