a few months back there was a rash of scam-sellers (I think they hikacked TB accounts with weak passwords? —only my understanding of incident, not 1st hand knowledge)
I haven't seen 'scam-buyers' yet but I bet they're out there.
...just a reminder to setup strong password protection for logins here on TB
Yeah there was a sticky re scam sellers hijacking accounts. The scammers always asked for PayPal F&F because there is no buyer protection with F&F. Buyer never receives the item...too bad, money gone. Now that asking for FF pymts has (unwisely IMO) been allowed on TB, any potential scammer-hijackers are camouflaged amongst the honest sellers.
Looking at the TB classifieds, it seems virtually everyone is asking for PayPal F&F nowadays. Really? What kinda fool gives up their Paypal buyer protection so a seller can save themselves the 3.5% fee? That's a big ask. Personally, I won't do it. If I
really want something for sale here, I'll offer to up the price by 3.5% to cover seller's PP fee if they're demanding F&F. If they won't accept that, then I have to suspect there's an ulterior motive, and I'm out.
Further still, AFAIK, Paypal rules still prohibit the use of F&F for goods and services. Abusers avoiding paying Goods and Services fees may be subject to having their accounts shut down. Paypal no likey being played. Will they take action against small-fry sellers here on TB?...probably not worth their effort atm.
This pronouncement below seems inexplicable to my way of thinking. Make of it what you will, but as no reason is given for the "decision", Caveat Emptor applies exponentially more here now than ever before.
