Emery Board for Calluses

I just used an emery board on my middle finger tip of my plucking hand. I assure you, no matter how twisted that last sentence may have sounded, it is completely innocent. OMG, that was just what the doctor ordered. My middle finger tip developed a callus that had a prominence that basically was catching the string causing timing issues (more than I usually have) and uneven play between my plucking fingers. Now that's fixed. Carry on.

My day job can tear into my callouses if I'm doing a lot of stuff (as I have here in the last several weeks). Metal thumb screws are the worst, and they really do a number. I figured out 20 years ago that if I use fingernail clippers to trim the area of loose skin and then use an emery board to smooth out the area, it helps maintain the callouses without removing them too much. I will usually then douse them in some really nice lotion as well, almost to the point that my hands are fairly 'greasy' (usually don't before I go to bed). This has worked for me for 20+ years.
