EMG X series on a aerodyne

i actually sent a message to emg asking what the difference between standard emg pjs and the pjx and this is what i got "The X-Series pickups feature a redesigned preamp that allows for much more headroom -- Basically the signal behaves more like a traditional passive pickup while retaining all of the benefits of going active. The signal from the X's looks like a traditional wave-form, rather than a squared-off digital signal from the standard actives! Traditional EMG's have been described by some as compressed and sterile, obviously players from around the world love the tighter response, but if your a passive pickup fan who's interested in actives I'd suggest checking out the X's. If you've already set up your rig for normal actives you should stick with them."

I'm excited to try these out, will post a review, first I have to have a battery compartment routed out (by a pro) i have a feeling I'm gonna like them, surprised no one else on TB has any experience with them
they have been out for a while i think maybe more will chime in
on this thread.. thanks

I'm interested in these. I'm looking for a higher output J pickup that's internally active for my Peavey Millennium. Tried Duncan ProActive, and while better than the stock Peavey, still does not even come close to blending with the MM bridge pickup. These look to be higher output than regular EMG's.

i haven't heard the bass versions yet, but the guitar "X" series definitely deliver what they promise, a clearer attack and a more natural sound.

i don't think they're actually any louder, though.

I just finished trying to put these into an aerodyne just last week. I had a set of original emg jazz in a MIM fender jazz, but hated them. I guess I would use the usual term and say they sounded sterile, but I loved the attack, and the silent operation. So when the released the X series it sounded like they had fixed all that I felt was wrong with them. So I start installing, and soon realized that I will definitely have to route to get the 9 volt in. I love the bass to much to start digging on it, so Im here with a set of 200$ non returnable pickups. I will say they shortened the pots from the old style, which is nice, because my old jazz knobs used to stick out bout half and inch to far, and now the system is completely solderless. Big heads up, you have to reverse the very last wire going into the battery terminal. I trouble shot this for a day and a half. If you get them in let me know what route you used to get the battery in.

I put a set of EMG x in my fury bass!!!!! the thing i like the most is the active tone control, it has a wide range. Over all it is a great hi end set of pickups and controls. And it does what a pickup should, pick up the sound of the bass.
