I want to purchase an EUB. I like what I have read about the NS CR4M but I hear that the Eminence is good too. I can't afford the NS EU series or the Warwick EUB. I am a beginner so I don't have the skill to evaluate the differences between the basses and I am looking for advice / recommendations. Thanks for your help.

Double Bass Eminence or NS CR4M??

Both are awesome. I have the NS CR5M and love it. The eminence is partially acoustic although not enough to play in a band situation without amplification. Also it has a neck similar to a real URB meaning it has a reference point on the back to let you know where you are on the neck. The CR4M doesn't have this but does have dot markers on the fingerboard. This would not keep me from either one but If it's an issue for you NS also makes model cr4t with a more traditional urb type neck. My cr5m is a real joy to play and was very easy to transition to from an electric bass although I did rent a real URB just to see if I liked them. I've never been able to play a eminence but they are on my gas list. Sorry if I am rambling. Good luck!

Depends on what you envision as the uses. I use my Eminence for low to medium volume situations where I want to simulate the sound of a true upright bass but can't bring one due to a variety of circumstances. I'll echo a response that suggests that learning on the Eminence will help develop the skills to directly apply to a standard 3/4 acoustic Upright Bass.
While my Eminence can get pretty loud before feedback, provided I put my speaker cabs alongside or in front of me, if the band situation is loud and the mix dense, or if circumstances won't let me place can't place my amp where I want, I'll take my homebuilt NS Design style stick bass. Its magnetic pickup adds more focus to the piezo bridge's sound, so it punches through the mix far better than the Eminence, and it won't feed back. However, it has less of an URB sound than my Eminence.
I would suggest making a decision based on where your intended uses land; I hope these specific examples help in your decision.
Depends on the sound you are going for as well. I've got a Messenger EUB that I have set up with steels and it is used for louder situations and arco. (The Messenger is closer to NS that it is to the Eminence.
The Eminence I have set up to try to reproduce the sound of my Kay with gut strings. With either Garbos, Animas and Golden Spiral G it does a really good job of sounding more oldschool. Friends of mine have the NS but I never warmed to to it even though it sounds really good. I never liked the width and radius of the fingerboard nor the fact that you have to play it on a tripod. I like to come as close to an upright feel and balance as possible. Think about what kind of gigs and what type of sound you want to use it for. Good luck.
