Double Bass End Pin Stop

I recently purchased a Willy Wolf Super End Pin stop, which I thought was a really cool idea. Unfortunately, the end pin on my Kay upright is far too large to fit in the sleeve. In the past I've used a tennis ball with a slit in it jammed over the end pin. This method works great, with one flaw: I have a dog who is absolutely OBSESSED with all things tennis ball. He will not leave it alone. You can see how this might end up badly for the bass (and possibly the dog). I've tried spray painting the tennis ball black, but I'm not fooling the dog. Are there any similar things on the market to the Willy Wolf Super End Pin?

Woof.

I known it's not what you're looking for, but if you find it difficult to find an endpin protector here's a suggestion.

Buy a rubber cap (any hardware store will sell you one) that's smaller than the pin diameter. Find a nut (as in nuts and bolts) that's about 3mm smaller than the pin (outer diameter). Squeeze the nut into the bottom of the rubber cap and push the pin in. The nut keeps the bottom from splitting and makes the rubber sleeve nice and tight. The rubber cap is what makes a difference grip wise, so I'd try and get a good one.

I don't know whether my sollution helps at all but I wish you all the best.

Have you tried putting cayenne pepper on the ball?

Here is the recipe:
1 egg white from one egg
crapload of cayenne pepper.
sour cream

Mix cayenne pepper and egg white together to form a paste. Paint it on the ball and let dry. Throw ball to dog. One taste and Dog runs away. Put ball on endpin. give dog container of sour cream to cool off mouth.

The New Harmony Endpin Ball works very well but its not applicable to all endpin types. The epoxy-on screw adapter fits a 1/2" shaft and the thread-in screw adapter works perfectly with wooden pins.

My bass came with the New Harmony ball and I found that it was hard to hold the bass still while bowing. I'm trying out a rubber crutch tip now that mostly keeps the bass from turning.

Anybody find this problem with the New Harmony?

LOL. Then he would just lay there and stare at the ball and whine.

A combination of Josiah Goldfish's recommendation and Gollihur's did the trick cheaply and effectively. No culinary arts were necessary, and thanks for all the suggestions and comments!

I couldn't find anything from New Harmony except carbon fiber endpins, btw...

Here's a pic I found of the endpin and ball.

Hmm. I was introduced to the New Harmony ball by a client who has them on all three of his basses, including his orchestral bass.

I was happily surprised at how much nicer the bass felt (playing pizz) with the round rubber tip versus the flat-on-the-bottom rubber tip. My bass is now wearing one... ;)
