endorsement contracts...

hey... I'm getting into the game where people are offering me deals with endorsements etc.. but some companies are asking that I be exclusive to their brand for a period of time.. in most cases a year. Is this like, normal practice? I'm guessing so and a year isn't so long but I'm worried I might use something and after a while find out that it's not living up to expectations and be stuck in a contract with a certain manufacturer.

Have you or anyone else found yourself in a position similar to this before?

Is it best to try out gear with a few companies before commiting to any endorsement agreement?

You've kind of answered your own question, yes. But yeah, a year is completely kosher, no worries on that. They need you to be exclusive, otherwise they are losing the advertising power of your presence.

It's all good. And you need to be sure before you sign that deal. But even if you're not happy, it's only a year. Nothing too traumatic.

When I had an arrangement with Trace Elliot I just had to be sure to have the stuff when I was on stage or camera, but they didn't care what I played in the studio or elsewhere. The hardest thing was having blazing green wraps on all my strings on every bass. Not a great look for a roots gig, lol, but that was who they were shooting for at the time.
